X Reverses Crypto Promotion Ban with New Paid Partnership Labels
X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, has quietly lifted its ban on sponsored crypto content, introducing a paid partnership labeling system. The MOVE allows crypto influencers to monetize their posts openly, marking a significant shift for a platform long considered the unofficial hub of crypto culture.
The new policy mandates that any paid promotion—including crypto-related content—must carry a visible partnership label. Nikita Bier, X’s head of product, framed the change as a balance between business growth and transparency. "This move is designed to help people grow their businesses on the platform without sacrificing authenticity," Bier said.
However, the policy comes with geographic restrictions. Influencers must ensure their paid crypto posts are not visible in the European Union, the UK, or Australia—markets with stringent financial promotion regulations. The burden of compliance falls squarely on creators, who now face the added complexity of audience targeting.
